What drove you to work in a fleet-related role?
In college I studied mechanical engineering with a focus in automotive engineering. I have always had an interest in the automotive industry, which attracted me to Lightning Hybrids. When I joined the team four years ago, Lightning Hybrids was still in the startup phase. I have enjoyed playing a role in the company growth. The company has been a great fit for me both professionally and personally.
Tell us a fun fact about your company.
We are unique because no one else offers a product like us. One portion of our hydraulic system is a hydraulic accumulator, which essentially uses pressure to store energy. When we were developing our system, all accumulators on the market were either too heavy for the vehicle or not strong enough. So, we decided to patent our own accumulator! Our co-founder and lead hydraulics engineer played a large role in developing it. We partnered with a company in the design stage of the development process. Our accumulator uses aluminum and carbon fiber material for the perfect combination of weight and strength. It is 25% the weight of average steel accumulators! We have since sold our patent to another company who now manufactures the accumulators for us.
What is one of the greatest challenges that Lightning Hybrids faces?
Our biggest challenge has been fleet adoption - getting people interested in hybrids and willing to accept the new technology. Hybrid technology is becoming commonplace in consumer vehicles, but it has been slow to catch on in fleet applications.
The value proposition of our hydraulic hybrid system is desirable. Our customers are able to save fuel and reduce emissions. Our system helps many of our customers achieve their own fleet environmental targets.
What brought Lightning Hybrids to using Fleetio?
We found Fleetio while searching for a useful platform to track our hybrid system and its service and maintenance requirements. We required a software that was easy to use, affordable, cloud-based and mobile with tracking tools. Fleetio had everything we were looking for!

We use Fleetio to track every component of our hybrid systems, such as when they were last serviced, who completed the install and any maintenance issues. Fleetio allows us to assign specific parts for installation and track the entire process all in one platform, no matter where we are.
How have your fleet operations improved since becoming a Fleetio user?
Fleetio provides us great tools to report on and analyze our hybrid system performance. We are able to track labels on different system components and analyze the data at the end of the year to improve fleet operations. For example, Fleetio data enables us to identify which system components fail the most throughout the year. We apply this information and other insights to improve our systems.
We also use Fleetio to improve product lifecycle. The ability to track fuel economy and the time it takes to complete system repairs keeps us more accountable and encourages us to provide prompt service.
Name one of your favorite interactions with the Fleetio team or product(s).
The new mobile app Fleetio Go has been fantastic for my team. The ability to scan barcodes and VINs from our phones is an amazing feature that adds convenience and efficiency to our daily operations.
